ADHD support and assessment

Structured assessments for children, young people and adults, giving a clear picture of attention, focus and energy, and the support that could help.

This is not a diagnostic assessment and cannot provide a diagnosis. A formal diagnosis of ADHD needs to come from a suitably qualified specialist, in line with NICE guidance.

About the assessment

The assessment looks at attention, concentration, activity levels and impulsivity, and how these show up in everyday life at home, at school or at work.

It brings together what we learn from you, from the person being assessed, and from the people who know them well, so the picture is as complete as possible.

What the assessment includes

  • Detailed interview with parent, carer or individual
  • Developmental and personal history
  • Questions about attention, activity levels and impulsivity
  • Information from family, partners or school where relevant
  • Integration of all available information
  • Written report with clear recommendations
  • Feedback session and discussion of next steps

What the assessment provides

  • A clear understanding of strengths and needs
  • Insight into attention, focus and activity levels
  • Identification of practical support strategies
  • Guidance for home, education or the workplace
  • Support for onward referral where appropriate

Who the service is for

  • Children and young people
  • Adults who want to understand their own attention, focus and energy
  • Families who want to understand what may be behind difficulties at home or school
  • Individuals who are waiting for, or thinking about, a formal diagnostic assessment

How reports are used

A written report can support several different next steps, depending on age and circumstance.

For children

  • School support
  • EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan)
  • SEND provision
  • Onward referrals

For adults

  • Workplace adjustments
  • Personal understanding
  • Onward referrals
